Airtel embarks on massive expansion in rural Tamil Nadu
Madurai, May 13 (UNI) Airtel, one of India's leading mobile service provider, has embarked on an aggressive expansion plan in rural areas of Tamil Nadu, this fiscal.
Talking to newspersons here today, Company CEO (Tamil Nadu) Rajiv Rajagopal said the company was well on its way to reach out to every census village, having already covered over 88 per cent of the 15,500 census villages. The company had spread its network to over 93 per cent along the National Highways and 88 per cent key rail routes across the state.
As part of its endeavour to provide superior network service to the customers, Airtel was increasing its Short Messaging Service (SMS) capacity from 5500/second to 6500/second by March 2009.
Having a customer base of over 5.8 million in the State, the company had plans to capture 50 per cent of the market share in the State, he added.
