Agartala, May 12 (UNI) The Tripura police has made extra security arrangements in and around the state capital as well as in the vital installations and National Highway in view of the 56th Plenary session of North Eastern Council (NEC), which begun here today.

Superintendent of Police (Operation) Nepal Das told UNI that special security measures were put in place across the main streets of the city while similar arrangements were also implemented around the Governor House, Circuit House and other places where the VVIP delegates would stay for the next two days.

''For the first time, so many VVIPs are coming to Tripura and we are leaving no stone unturned to make the NEC Plenary a grand success. However, there is no security threat during this meet, as the situation in Tripura is quite stable now,'' Mr Das said, adding that about 500 high level officials arrived in the state to attend the meeting.

However, police, paramilitary forces and plainclothes security personnel were deployed at all areas, including the roads through which the delegates would move. The police personnel and Dog Squads of the CID had already begun search operations at all places, including hotels, he added.
