Police intensify search for Swami
Kochi, May 12 (UNI) Police have spread a dragnet to nab godman Amritachaithanya alias Santhosh Madhavan in connection with a cheating case registered against him.
Police said teams were moved to different parts of the city and neighbouring Alappuzha district to nab the controversial 'Swami', who was absconding for the last three days.
Two cases-- cheating case under section 420 of the IPC and another under the Wildlife Protection Act for possession of tiger skin-- had been registered against the Swami yesterday.
The cheating case was registered as per the complaint by Dubai-based Keralite woman Sarafin Edwin, filed through e-mail and fax, that the Swami had cheated her off Rs 40 lakh.
In a raid conducted on his flat at Saturday, police seized articles, including pornographic CDs, a police uniform, sandalwood, liquor and some documents relating to land deals.
The 'International Criminal Police Organization' (Interpol) had issued a look-out notice for the Swami in connection with the financial fraud case in the UAE.
Meanwhile, the Youth Congress members today attacked the 'Santhitheeram' guest house of the Swami here and smashed window panes and destroyed property.
