Kolkatans hope for slight respite from excessive humidity
Kolkata, May 12 (UNI) Kolkata is likely to get slight respite from the hot and humid weather as thunder squalls and rainfalls are expected to occur later in the night.
Alipore Met officials predicted a partly cloudy sky with a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours.
Although, there had been traces of rainfall in South Kolkata, there has not been any drastic change in the day's temperatures today. In fact, the maximum temperature was recorded at 35.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum 26.2 degrees Celsius, both being within the normal range.
The maximum humidity in the city reached as high as 85 per cent, however, in mid-afternoon it came down at 64 per cent.
Met officials today said that the southwest monsoons have further advanced into some more parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, entire South Andaman Sea and most parts of North Andaman Sea. Hence, rain or thundershower was likely to occur at a few parts of Gangetic and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
Thunder squalls, with wind speed between 50 and 60 kmph, is likely to occur at isolated places over West Bengal during the next 24 hours.
