Chennai, May 12 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today assured the state assembly that leader of the opposition J Jayalalithaa, who had moved the Madras High court seeking additional protection, would be provided whatever security ordered by the court.
Replying to the debate on the demand for grants for police department, the Chief Minister, who is holding the police portfolio, said the DMK government has provided full protection to her as she was under Z plus category.
Pointing out that the former Chief Minister has moved the High Court seeking additional protection, he said the government was ready to provide whatever security ordered by the high court or the Supreme court.
He said as of now, the government was providing security to Ms Jayalalithaa, whatever ordered by the centre for a person who is under z plus category.
Ms Jayalalithaa in her petition, had sought close circuit facility around her Poes Garden residence, Jammer, Ambulance, and demanded that all the vehicles in her convoy should be petrol driven and not diesel. These were not mentioned in the Centre's order, he said.
Referring to her request that she be provided with bullet proof car, Mr Karunanidhi alleged that the government has given her a bullet proof car like the one used by the Chief Minister, but she refused to use it.
Ms Jayalalithaa has demanded that officers, specified by her should be deputed for her security and a team, headed by retired Director General of Police (DGP), be established to supervise her security arrangements.
The government could not concede her demands as there was no provision for this in the Centre's order, Mr Karunanidhi said.
