Food production to touch 100 lakh MT in the state
Tiruchirapalli, May 12: The Food production in Tamil Nadu is expected to touch 100 lakh metric tonnes during the current year, Rural Development and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin said.
Windling up the four-day an agricultural exhibition organised by Tamil Daily Dinamalar here last night, he said when the DMK government assumed office in 2006, the food production was 61.17 lakh metric tonnes.
He claimed that the free electricity scheme to the farmers introduced during the DMK's rule in 1989, was replicated by Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.
The State Government, which was according priority to the farm sector had earmarked a substantial amount for agriculture in the current year's budget, he added.
