Hardwar, May 12 (UNI) At least six persons, including four teenagers, were killed and over 24 others grievously injured after a speeding tractor-trolley overturned at the Hardwar-Moradabad National Highway here late last night.
A group of more than 24 people, all residents of Bijnore district's village Zafarpur in UP, was on way to Hardwar for a 'mundan' ceremony on beaches of the river Ganga, when their vehicle overturned in Shyampur area, Superintendent of Police (City) Aseem Srivastava told UNI today.
While five passengers died on the spot, another succumbed during the course of treatment.
The injured were in remission at the district hospital, where the condition of two was stated as critical.
The deceased were identified as Arjun Singh (16), Shokeen (16), Kailash (40), Pinkki (16), Tejpal Singh (78) and Khem Singh (18).
Meanwhile in another mishap yesterday afternoon, two people died and three others were injured after their SUV dashed against an upcoming mini bus near G K University on the Hardwar-Delhi National Highway under Kankhal police station area.
The dead were identified as Sheela Devi (45) and chauffeur Amit Chaudhary (35), also natives of Muzaffarnagar district of UP.
Bodies had been sent for autopsy.
