Berhampur, Orissa, May 12 (UNI) Security arrangements were beefed up today after Berhampur University Vice-Chancellor Dr Bijaya Kumar Sahu received threatening calls from unknown persons.
Police swung into action soon after the University Registrar filed an FIR with the Gopalpur police station in the evening after three phone calls threatening to eliminate the VC.
According to police, these threatening calls were made from two local phone booths, including one at Jenana Hospital Road here.
Police claimed that they had traced out the PCO but were still in dark about identifying the culprit.
Meanwhile, Dr Sahu said one person claiming to be Girish Gomango of Malkangiri threatened him thrice over phone.
The caller had reportedly told the VC that he would be eliminated since he was making troubles and taking action against some staffs of the Berhampur University, including Prof Ashok Panigrahi.
Prof Panigrahi was recently suspended from the post on charges of sexually harassing a girl student of the university.
The VC had formally informed the Chancellor about the incident.
