Asthma can be kept under control through medication: Pediatrician
Tiruchirapalli, May 12 (UNI) Asthma can be kept under control through medication, according to renowned pediatrician V V Varadharajan.
Asthma is neither a disease that kills nor a condition that carries any stigma, he told newspersons after conducting a CME programme for the members of the Tiruchirapalli chapter of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics on the causes and cure for juvenile asthma here yesterday.
He said the reason for children suffering from asthma is mainly due to allergic conditions, both domestic and atmospheric pollution, coupled with reduced greenery.
Replying to a question, he said the disorder pertains to shrinking of the windpipe, making breathing difficult for the child, and referred as wheezing complaint till the child is two years old.
But many parents are reluctant to accept it as asthma, as they are affected by certain inhibitions and hardly make any attempt to overcome them, he added.
Pet dogs, cats and cockroaches are also the reasons for enhancing asthma among children, the pediatrician from Chennai said.
Dr Jagdish Chinnappa Head Department of Pediatrics, Manipal Hospital Bangalore, said the prevalence of asthma is high in Bangalore city.
