Silchar, May 11 (UNI) Railway workers today launched an agitation to protest the killing of a railway employee by suspected Dimasa militants at Wardingdisa station in North Cachar Hills district last night.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Mazdoor Union, Badarpur subdivision, protested the killing by sporting a black badge throughout the day. However, the normal work was not suspended.

Later, the Mazdoor Union functionaries sent separate memorandums to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and NFR General Manager Ashutosh Swami, in which they demanded adequate security for the railway employees in the Lumding-Silchar section and the North Cachar Hills areas in particular.

The Union said it would launch a more severe agitation, including stopping the trains on the section, if adequate security was not provided immediately.

Suspected Dima Halam Daogah (Black Widow) militants launched an attack last night on the Wardingdisa railway station, 25 km from Haflong, the headquarters of NC Hills, killing three persons, after 12 of their members were killed in an encounter with security forces early yesterday.

Meanwhile, NF Railway General Manager Ashutosh Swami and Divisional Railway Manager (Lumding) S S Narayanan visited the Wardingdisa railway station to take stock of the situation.
