Kolkata, May 11 (UNI) Indian Railways' Reena Kumari has emerged winner in the trials for the Beijing Olympics ahead of aspirant Chekrovolu Swuro.
Official sources said here today that Ms Kumari is likely to join the three-member Indian women Archery team for the Beijing Olympics.
India's top archer Dola Banerjee and Laishram Bombayla Devi have already been selected. The selection trials for a third member, held at the Sports Authority of India's (SAI) eastern region centre here, ended yesterday.
Reena Kumari finished with 2,575 points, much ahead of Nagaland archer Chekrovolu Swuro, who finished fourth with 2,538 points at the trials, in which, already selected Dola Banerjee and Manipur's Bombayla Devi did not participate.
Archery Association of India secretary Pareshnath Mukherjee said he will send trial reports to the association's president Vijay Kumar Malhotra for consideration of the selection.
Mr Malhotra heads the selection committee for archers particiapting in the August Beijing Olympics.
Mr Malhotra has already named Mangal Singh Champia for the single-member men's team and Dola Banerjee and Bombayla Devi for the women's team.
The trials also selected the teams for the Archery World Cup at Antalya, Turkey, and Boe, France.
The teams for Antalya, Turkey (May 27-31) comprised: Women: Dola Banerjee, L Bombayla Devi, Reena Kumari, Punya Prava.
Men: Mangal Singh Champia, Jayanta Talukdar, Rahul Banerjee, and Priyank.
The teams for Boe, France (June 25-29) comprised: Women: Punya Prabha, Chekrovolu Swuro, V Pranitha, and Rimil Biruli.
Men: Jayanta Talukdar, Rahul Banerjee, Priyank and W Rajan Singh (Jr).
