UP govt fixes stock limit of foodgrains, pulses, edible oil
Lucknow, May 10 (UNI) In order to control rising prices of essential commodities in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government today decided to fix stock limit of foodgrains, pulses and edible oils.
A decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati.
As per the decision, the specified stock limits for wheat and pulses would be effective till August 27, 2008, while in the case of edible oils and rice it would be till April 6, 2009, an official spokesman said.
The limits have been fixed for producers, wholesalers and retailers violation of which would be punishable under the provisions of the Essential Commmodities Act (ESA), 1955.
In another major decision, the state government has reconstituted UP Trade Tax department. It has been done in view of the introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) regime in the state with effect from January 1, 2008.
The cabinet also approved the reconstitution of the stamp and registration department.
