Kakinada, May 10 (UNI) The district administration has submitted a contingency plan to Andhra Pradesh government, seeking Rs 5.69 crore for meeting drinking water shortage, East Godavari District Collector Gopala Krishna Dwivedi said today.
As many as 545 habitations along the coast were prone to drinking water shortage and required water supply through tankers, he said.
Water transportation through tankers had already commenced for ten habitations, he added.
In order to ensure effective transportation of water to the needy villages, monitoring committees have been constituted at district, division, mandal and village levels, he said.
The drinking water needs were effectively met in all the other areas through 1048 protected water supply schemes, 20 comprehensive protected water supply schemes, 8277 hand pumps and 4525 open wells.
In addition, seven more comprehensive protected water supply schemes were sanctioned this year for covering 150 habitations, he said.
