Puducherry should press for special category state status: Ramadass
Puducherry, May 10 (UNI) PMK Parliamentary party leader M Ramadass today said Puducherry should press for special category state status.
Addressing a press conference here, Ramadass opined that forwarding mere resolution, adopted in the territorial Assembly, would not bring any result. Hence the administration should constitute an expert committee comprising economists, under an IAS officer, and prepare a feasibility report which should be attached along with the resolution, he added.
Prof Ramadass said the inclusion of creamy layer in the OBC reservation in higher education is anti-Constitutional. Stating that the creamy layer concept will severely hit the OBC students, he said the Centre is considering the issue and all state governments will have to send their views on this issue.
He alleged that in Puducherry, where 75 per cent of the people were OBC, the government failed to adopt a special resolution in this regard and forward it to the Centre. This failure of the Puducherry administration should be condemned strongly, he added.
