New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) Eminent nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar and Haryana Governor A R Kidwai were today awarded honorary degrees by Jamia Hamdard for significant contribution in their respective fields.
The two were awarded Doctor of Science honoris causa at the eighth convocation of Jamia Hamdard at Vigyan Bhavan here.
Dr Kakodkar is Atomic Energy Commission Chairman and also Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Atomic Energy.
A distinguished engineer and scientist of international repute, Dr Kakodkar has played a major role in India's design and development capability and self-reliance in nuclear technology.
At present, he is representing India in the negotiations at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.
Dr Kakodkar was awarded with Padma Shri in 1998 and Padma Bhushan in 1999.
On the other hand, Dr Kidwai has been the Governor of Haryana since July 7, 2004. He was a deputy minister in the Government of India from 1974 to 1977.
Dr Kidwai was Governor of Bihar twice, first from 1979 to 1985 and then from 1993 to 1998, and also West Bengal Governor from 1998 to 1999.
He was a Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University from 1983 to 1992, and a member of the Rajya Sabha from January 2000 to July 2004.
