This decision was taken during the AIU meeting, held on May 8 at the Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Ahmedabad, with AIU Chairman and Maulana Azad Urdu University, Hyderabad Vice Chancellor A M Pathan. All India University Sports Board member-secretary Dr Gurdit Singh was also present in the meeting.

The FAI, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sports Authority of India had also pleaded with AIU to include fencing in the University sports calendar, Vij said.
The FAI will provide technical support and equipment for organising All India Inter-Varsity Championship for three years, he said.
