Exam failure leads to 5 students committing suicide in TN
Chennai, May 10 (UNI) At least five students, who failed in the Plus Two examinations conducted by the Tamil Nadu government for which the results were announced yesterday, allegedly committed suicide sending shock waves across the state.
A day after the results were declared, reports received from various parts of the state said at least five students, including three girls, ended their lives either by consuming poison or setting themselves ablaze or by hanging.
Gauthaman, hailing from Kadanallur near Periyapalayam, who failed in two subjects, committed self-immolation by pouring kerosene on himself. He studied in a local government school.
A report from Thiruvannamalai said Sakthivel, who failed in Accountancy, consumed pesticide and died.
In Tiruvarur District, Bakhya, who studied in a local government school, jumped into the Thiruvarur Thyagaraya Temple pond. Devotees, there made a vain bid to save her.
A report from Tirupur said Rubini, who failed in Maths, allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her house last night. Geetha of Udhagamandalam consumed poison and died.
