Derailment disrupts rail traffic on Amritsar-Delhi route

Jalandhar, May 10 (UNI) Rail traffic on Jalandhar-Amritsar route was today distrupted for nearly 11 hours due to derailment of an engine and two bogies of Amritsar-bound Jananayak Express (eds.correct) just after it left the Jalandhar City railway station in the wee hours today.

Ferozepur Circle Additional Divisional Railway Manager said that an engine and two bogies of the Amritsar bound Sahasra-Amritsar Jananayak Expess (5211) got derailed at 0230 hrs near Damoria bridge just out side the city railway station. However, no one was injured in the incident, he added.

Due to derailment, both Up and Down tracks were damaged and nearly eight trains coming from Amritsar were the most affected, he said adding that nearly six trains coming from Ludhiana side were diverted to Amritsar via Pathankot from Jalandhar Cantt railway station itself.

Delhi-bound Down track was restored around 1330 hours and Amritsar-Delhi Satabadi had just passed he infomed, the other trains which remained stranded at some distance from the city include Sachkhand Express, Amritsar-New Delhi Super Fast Exress among others, he said however, railway authorities at Ludhiana and other stations refunded the ticket amount of the passenger who were to board these trains but got delayed due to the incident.

The rail traffic on Amritsari-bound Up track had been restored, he said.

The exact cause of the derailment was yet to be ascertained as inquiry has been marked into the incident, he said.
