Kurukshetra, May 9 (UNI) Kurukshetra police today arrested five members of an inter-state gang of robbers, most of them students, involved in many cases of robberies in Kurukshetra, Kaithal and other districts of the state besides some cases in Gujarat.
A special investigation team (SIT) led by Inspector Yashwant Singh Yadav nabbed five members from a hideout near Sanwala village about 7 km from here early today.
One of the gangsters Sandeep of Kaithal studying in BA was still at large.
According to the police, banned and unlicensed Australian pistol .9 mm and a country-made pistol with 2 live cartridges and 5 empty cartridges were recovered from the gangsters.
Some other sharp-edged weapons were also seized from them.
The arrested youths are mostly students. While Bijender Singh is a student of B. Tech of NIT Kurukshetra, Prahlad Kumar of Kaithal is a student of Hotel Management. Sandeep and Satish both of Kaithal are undergraduate students in a Kaithal college and Pradeep Kumar of Jind is a student of Bhagwan Parsuram College Kurukshetra.
Hoshiar Singh of Kalayat in Jind is also following studies privately.
The accused were produced in the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mr Pradeep Kumar who sent all the five accused to police remand for recovery of vehicles and the weapons and also the money looted in many cases of robbery in Pehowa and Kaithal a few months ago.
After the court granted police remand, the accused were taken to Pehowa for further investigation of the cases.
