Two candidates arrested for violating Model Code of Conduct
Bangalore, May 9 (UNI) Two candidates of the Congress and the Janata Dal(S) were today arrested for violating the Model Code of Conduct during their campaign for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
A report from Belgaum said former minister and Congress candidate from Yamakanmardi constituency Satish Jarkiholi was arrested for violating the Code in Ullagaddi Khanapur in the district.
Acting on a complaint, police arrested Mr Jarkiholi this afternoon as he had obtained permission for a public meeting in one place and held the meeting elsewhere. He was later released on bail, police officials said.
In another incident, former minister and Janata Dal(S) candidate Iqbal Ansari was arrested by the police for violating the Code in Koppal.
Election officials said the candidate was held when he was moving in a motor convoy, using more number of vehicles than permitted by the officials.
One of the vehicles was seized, while the drivers of the remaining vehicles drove away, officials added.
Mr Ansari was later released on bail.
