SC issues notices to 2010 Commonwealth Games Committee
New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices to 2010 Commonwealth Games Comittee on a petition seeking ban on the construction of multi-storey Siri Fort Complex and Basement parkings for the Games in the Green Belt by cutting thousands of trees.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices Arijit Pasayat and S H Kapadia issued notices on the petition filed by an advocate M L Lahoty challenging that construction of the multi-storeyed Sports complex on the grounds that it will damage the environment and also increase congestion in the area, which is already very congested.
The apex court also directed the committee to respond to the allegations.
