Both the leaders held telephonic talks during which they noted that relations between Russia and India made ''considerable progress'' over the last years and ''reached a new level,'' it said late last night, adding the conversation took place at India's initiative. ''Mr Medvedev and Mr Singh expressed confidence that the partnership between Russia and India would continue to play an important part in developing multifaceted cooperation, friendship and mutual understanding, and noted the significance in this respect of the Year of Russia in India and the Year of India in Russia in 2008-2009,'' it said.

The Prime Minister, in a telegram, on Wednesday had congratulated Mr Medvedev on taking Presidential office, saying India was satisfied with strategic partnership with Russia.
