Girls outshine boys in Plus 2 exam, pass percentage up
Chennai, May 9 (UNI) Asha Ganesan, Muralikrishnan S and Harish Sriram bagged the first three ranks in the March 2008 Higher Secondary Examinations, the results of which were declared this morning.
The overall pass percentage improved to 84.4 per cent compared to last year's 81 per cent with the girls outshining the boys.
Asha Ganesan of Anna Adarsh MHSS in the city secured 1191 marks bagging the top position, followed by Muralikrishnan S of SDAV HSS Adambakkam with 1,188 marks and Harish Sriram of DAV HSS with 1,187 marks.
A total of 6,41,230 candidates appeared for the examination with 4,96,494 or 84.4 per cent clearing them.
The pass percentage for the boys was 81.3 per cent (2,26,733 candidates), an improvement of over 77.4 per cent in the last year's examination.
The pass percentage for the girls was 87.3 per cent (2,69,761 candidates), higher than 84.6 per cent recorded last year.
The number of candidates securing an aggregate of 60 per cent and above also showed an improvement at 3,60,722 candidates in 2008 against 3,29,091 in 2007.
