Bhopal, May 9: Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Jyotiraditya Scindia today claimed that the unity among senior Congress leaders and party workers would be the basis for a Congress victory in the Madhya Pradesh polls. ''Every veteran and senior Congress leader should side with the party's state unit President Suresh Pachouri. Our party is like a family that comes together despite differences of opinion over marginal issues.
I have an old relationship with Mr Pachouri,'' he told reporters here. When asked whether he would be active in state politics, Mr Scindia claimed that he was more interested in ''serving'' the common man. ''I have to fulfill the responsibility bestowed on me by (United Progressive Alliance Chairperson) Mrs Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh). The several steps taken by me towards improvement in the telecommunication sector will begin showing their impact in a couple of months. For this state, a target was set to enhance the number of telecom customers from 12 to 26 lakh,'' the Minister added. Pointing out that call rates were reduced to a level even below China's, he assured that he would take steps for the betterment of Posts and Telegraph Department employees who were doing yeoman's service by acting as a bridge for conveying personal messages between people.
