Srinagar, May 9 (UNI) The chief of the Army staff General Deepak Kapoor was today given a detailed brief by the field commanders in forward areas about the prevailing situation on the borders.
Gen Kapoor, accompanied by his wife Kirti Kapoor, President Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) arrived here today on a three-day visit to Kashmir valley.
Earlier, he inaugurated and dedicated Baghbela hotel in border town of Tanghdar to the people.
Official sources said General Kapoor later visited a number of forward areas near the Line of Control (LOC) in the frontier district of Kupwara.
He was told about the recent infiltration attempts from across the border by the militants.
Sources said a detailed brief was given to General Kapoor about the measures taken by the troops to foil the infiltration attempts from across the border in summer.
The field commanders also briefed General Kapoor about the damages caused to some army bunkers and other installation near the border by heaviest snowfall in 20 years in January this year which claimed several lives of troops and porters.
Sources said General Kapoor is scheduled to meet Jammu and Kashmir governor Lt General (Rtd) S K Sinha later this evening.
