Udupi, May 8 (UNI) The management of Tebma Shipyards Ltd today said it was committed to construct an exclusive slip way free of cost for the use of fishing community in Malpe.
Addressing the press conference last night M M Kamat, Director and Ashok Acharya, General Manager of the company said it had emerged as the successful bidder for taking ship building activities in ten acres of land in Malpe in 1999.
As the state government had agreed to hand over 10 acres of land for construction of the slip way at the earliest.
On May three the fisher folk of this fishing town had protested against the company in front of ship building site for not keeping its promise of building the slip way after it's shipbuilding activities had affected them.
He said when the ship building activity begins Karnataka would be put on the ship building map of the country and also create additional employment.
Tebma, established in 1984, had so for built over 100 vessels, catering to the needs of diverse clientele including defense, leading ports, power plants and global shipping companies, he said.
It owned shipbuilding facility near Chennai on the East coast and Kochi on the West.
