Lucknow, May 8 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and MP from Indore, Sumitra Mahajan today alleged that people of Rae Bareli, the parliament constituency of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, are annoyed with their MP as she did not fulfilled any promises made by her during her election campaign.
Talking to mediapersons here after her visit to Rae Bareli this morning, Ms Mahajan claimed that not a single promise made by Ms Gandhi have been fulfilled.
''Projects like Rail coach factory, employment generation and developmental schemes were yet a distant dream for the people and it was unfortunate that the Congress president had not even touched these issues,'' the BJP leader said.
The former Union minister said she had talked to the people in about their problems and now the masses in Rae Bareli were ready to join the BJP, if the party rakes up their issues.
Ms Mahajan, was in Rae Bareli to assess the poll prospect of the party in the constituency for the coming Lok Sabha election.
Commenting on whether former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would contest from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat this time, she said it was upto the leader to decide. ''I am a very small worker of the party and I have no authority to comment on the future decision of such a big personality,'' she added.
Meanwhile, state Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh reacting on the comment of the BJP leader rubbished her allegations, saying no other constituency had received such development schemes than Rae Bareli.
''Ms Mahajan should peep into the state of affairs in the Lucknow constituency of Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee rather than commenting on Rae Bareli,'' he said.
