Bettiah, May 8 (UNI) Notorious gangster Bhagar Yadav carrying a cash award of Rs 4.5 lakh on his head and wanted in connection with 92 criminal cases, surrendered before the police here today.
Police said Bhagar surrendered along with two of his accomplices before Superintendent of Police K C Anupam and also handed over his firearms, including two rifles and one carbine, to him.
''Altogether 92 criminal cases related to murder,kidnapping, dacoity and extortions were lodged against him in different police stations in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh'', Mr Anupam said adding Bhagar was wanted for than two decades.
The gangster was also wanted in connection with a massacre at Baiju village under Baria police station in West Champaran district where he killed five people on the spot.
''The Bihar government and Uttar Pradesh government had announced cash rewards of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh respectively to anyone giving tips leading to arrest of Bhagar Yadav,'' Mr Anupam said.
Bihar government would provide financial assistance to Bhagar as admissible in rehabilitation policy, earlier announced by the state government.
