MoEF budgetary allocation for Meghalaya

Shillong, May 8 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests has made budgetary provision for various environmental programmes in Meghalaya during 2007-08.

According to an official statement here, Rs. 64 lakhs were allocated for the development of national parks and sanctuaries, Rs 30 lakhs for protection of the biosphere reserve, Rs 50 lakhs for 'Project Elephant', Rs 86 lakhs for Integrated Forest Protection Scheme, Rs 500 lakhs under National Afforestation Programme and Rs 350 lakhs under the scheme of Gregarious Flowering Muli Bamboo.

An area of 8075 hectares was taken up for plantation in Meghalaya during 2007-08 under the National Afforestation and Eco-development Board, the statement said.

A total of Rs 4647 crores were made as budgetary provisions by the Ministry for the North East region during the last three years, while 156 NGO's were selected for implementation of the schemes during the same period.
