Shillong, May 8 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy today said his government would soon reconstitute the All Party Committee to dwell on mining of uranium in the state.

'' The reconstituted Committee will suggest views and opinions of all the members of the House, '' Dr Roy told members of the 60-member Assembly in course of his reply to a resolution moved by opposition member R C Laloo (Cong).

State Mining and Geology Minister Donkupar Massar also informed the House that no decision was taken on mining uranium ore in the state.

He said Uranium Corporation of India Ltd had assured the government of providing healthcare and other facilities at Wahkaji and others areas where uranium was found in the West Khasi Hills district of the state.

Earlier, Dr Laloo had asked the ruling United Democratic Party-led Meghalaya Progressive Alliance government to make it clear before the members of the House and the people of the state, so as there should not be any tragic impact on the indigenous community of the state.

Stating that uranium was a sensitive issue, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition D D Lapang said the government in the past had kept the health and survival of the people as top priority.

'' The issue should be discussed open- mindedly and the centre should not impose any decision against the interests of the people, '' Mr Lapang said.
