Import of poultry products banned
Kohima, May 08 (UNI) In the wake of outbreak of Bird Flu in the neighbouring states and countries, the Nagaland Government has banned import of all poultry products in the state.
The state's Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has cautioned the public and traders alike not to bring any poultry or its products from any state, including West Bengal, Assam and even Manipur, official sources here today said.
The Department has also set up various quarantine check-posts at the entry points into the state along the inter-state and international borders, specially at Dimapur, to strictly enforce to the prevention order.
Sources said that Department personnel were regularly checking and inspecting all daily and weekly markets to prevent any poultry and its products from entering the state from outside.
It also said that they have received information from various sources that some unscrupulous traders were illegally importing banned items through various porous routes in the name of local farms and villages, which were also being scanned by the Department.
