New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) After a year of negative growth, the domestic sales of passenger vehicles in the country has seen a 21.21 per cent growth in April at 1,30,013 units as against 1,07,263 units during the same month a year ago.
The domestic car sales rose 17.2 per cent in April 2008 to 98,740 units from 84,283 in the same month a year earlier, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said today.
The sale of utility vehicles has gone up to 22,203 units last month from 16,862 units during the corresponding period a year earlier, posting a 31.67 per cent increase.
Multi-purpose vehicles sales has seen a growth of 48.25 per cent at 9,070 units in April from 6,118 units during April 2007.
The domestic sale of commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses increased 7.6 per cent to 33,271 units in April from 30,914 units over the same period last year.
Under the commercial vehicles segment, the sale of medium and heavy commercial vehicles grew 5.28 per cent at 18,608 units in April from 17,674 units over the same period a year ago.
The light commercial vehicles has seen a growth of 10.75 per cent at 14,663 units last month from 13,240 units during the corresponding period last year.
The industry body SIAM said the growth of 5.37 per cent has been seen in the domestic sales of three wheelers in April at 26,916 units, against 25,545 units during the corresponding period last year.
While, the two-wheelers segment has registered an increase of eight per cent at 6,16,038 units in April from 5,70,381 units.
The domestic sale of scooter/scooterette has seen an increase of 11.93 per cent at 81,002 units in April from 72,369 units over the same period last year.
The motor cycle has posted a 8.31 rise in domestic sales at 5,01,592 units in April this year, as against 4,63,091 units during the corresponding period a year ago.
The mopeds sales has gone down to 32,944 units in April from 33,343 units over the same period last year, a deline of 1.20 per cent.
