Murshidabad, May 08: In all, 10 people were injured today when Congress party workers allegedly hurled bombs at the homes of some CPI(M) candidates in the district's Kapashdanga village under Beldanga police station.
A CPI(M) candidate's relative Sufiya Bibi alleged that Congress activists broke into their house and lobbed bombs at them early this morning, injuring many including the candidate and her two sons. All of them were reportedly in serious condition.
Congres MP Adhir Choudhury, however, alleged that their party workers had no hand in the bombing incident and that it was the doing of the CPI(M) party's own members in an attempt to scandalise the former's party name just before the Panchayat elections. All the injured persons have been admitted to Burhampur New General Hospital, where sources reported the condition of four to be critical.
Beldanga police sources here said that they were ill-equipped to handle the situation and have hence called in for back-up from Burhampur police station.
While SP Basak Dasgupta admitted that tension prevailed in the village, however, also said that they can not say anything for certain as to who attacked whom.
''But, we have sent our forces to the spot and will be able to update you on the matter as soon as we receive information from them,'' he told reporters.
Meanwhile, details regarding the condition of the CPI(M) party workers admitted to the hospital are awaited.
