Mumbai, May 8 (UNI) Mohammed Mustafa Dossa alias Mustafa Majnu, an associate of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahaim and accused in the separate 1993 serial bomb blasts case here, has been discharged by a TADA court at Ahmedabad for lack of evidence of his involvement in an arms landing case.
Dossa, a close confidant of prime absconding accused Tiger Memon, is also facing seven more cases in the country. Of them, three cases are under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) act at Porbandar, Jamnagar and Valsad in Gujarat for his alleged involvement in the landing of the arms prior to the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai. Besides, a case of extortion is also pending against him at Bharuch.
His lawyer Rizwan Merchant said here today a case under the various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Explosive Substances Act and the TADA Act was registered by Crime Branch of CID, Ahmedabad against him, in which he was tried after deporting from Dubai in 2003.
He said the court had yesterday discharged him from all the charges levelled against him.
Dossa, who was deported from Dubai on March 20, 2003, was accused of actively participating in the 1993 serial bomb blasts conspiracy.
He was also allegedly involved in the landing of weapons in Maharashtra's Raigad district prior to the blasts on March 12, 1993, that had left 257 people dead and 574 injured.
His name was also figured in two cases in Karnataka, that of a murder of arms landing agent at Modbagul and seizure of silver in Bangalore.
As per evidence so far produced before the TADA court in Mumbai, Dossa had not given any confessional statement, but was named by various convicts, like Salim Mira Shaikh and others, for his involvement in the crime.
