Shillong, May 8: The 147th birth anniversary of nobel laureate Kaviguru Rabindra Nath Tagore was celebrated in Meghalaya through various cultural programmes today. A special feature programme was arranged for the first time in the capital city of Meghalaya by the local station of All India Radio here.

The idea of arranging such a feature on this occasion was taken up by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi since Tagore had a long-standing connection with this northeastern hilly state. The world famous poet stayed in many places of this town during his visits, including Brook side Mansion near here, which has been rechristened to Rabindranath Art Gallery by the state government very recently. Eminent artistes from both Shillong and Silchar stations of AIR will perform in the function, which will be concluded on May 13 and broadcast in five episodes, Bangiya Sahitya Parishad sources here said.

This feature would throw light on Tagore's visit to this state and his literary works, including short stories, poetry, songs among others.

The programme has been named 'Shillongey Rabindranath' in English and will have five parts of half hour duration. Thakur's poems, letters and other works will be coming up in Bengali in between the programme.
