Three students injured in protest outside Trident facility
Barnala, May 7 (UNI) Three students, including two girls sustained injuries after police lathi charged a large group of ITI students outside the main facility of the Trident Group of industries in Dhaula village, 5-kms from here today.
The students were protesting against the decision of the Punjab government to hand over the management of three to four ITIs to the Trident Group.
The students from all over the state and numbering about 500 assembled outside the main gate of the facility to protest against the take over of the ITIs by the industrial group. They claimed that this form of privatisation would lead to esclation of fees in ITIs in the state.
The protest which was intially peaceful became unruly when certain students pelted stones at the main block inside the facility. The police then resorted to a mild lathi charge which led to injuries to three students.
The injured students who were admitted to the civil hospital here were identified as Baljit Kaur from Moga, Harmanjit Kaur from Dhuri and Amardeep Singh from Sunam. No arrests had been made so far though the police has registered a case.
