Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, May 7 (UNI) Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today kickstarted the party's campaign for bypolls, scheduled to be held in 18 Assembly and four Lok Sabha seats on May 29, at Dornakal town in this district.

Speaking at a public meeting, Mr Naidu, along with TDP candidate for Warangal Lok Sabha seat Y Dayakara Rao, promised that his party would construct houses for all poor free of cost if it came to power in 2009 general elections.

Announcing that the TDP would provide pensions to aged people, widows and waive the loans taken by poor immediately after coming to power, Mr Naidu said free power would also be provided to the BPL families, who were using up to 50 units per month.

Demanding that the Congress-led UPA and the state government take steps to bring down the prices of essential commodities, Mr Naidu said both the governments at the Centre and state, should resign unconditionally if they failed to contain the skyrocketing prices.

Alleging that the state government had failed to allocate sufficient funds for the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward communities, he said the TDP had supplied more than three lakh bedsheets to the students in SC and ST hostels after the government failed to distribute them.
