Precious metals rise further in opening session

Mumbai, May 7: Both precious metals advanced further in the opening session with silver rising by Rs 90 per kg to cross Rs 23,000 today while gold reached Rs 11,665 on a gain of Rs 65 per ten gms from their previous close following brisk buying support from ornament makers and high global cues, traders at the Bombay Bullion Association (BBA) said.

In the international market, gold edged up to USD 878.00/879.00 an ounce from USD 877.40/878.60 an ounce late in New York yesterday and silver also inched up to USD 16.86/16.91 an ounce from USD 16.84/16.91 an ounce, a Singapore market report said. The international prices impacted the domestic market.

Following were the opening rates of spot silver and gold in the bullion market here today: Silver (per kg) 999 fineness grade: Rs 23,045 Gold (per 10 gm): 99.5 purity standard mint: Rs 11,665 99.9 purity pure gold: Rs 11,725.
