Kathmandu, May 7: Conveying a strong political message to the CPN-M and virtually setting a precondition for support, the CPN-UML have called upon the Maoists to change their style of political activities and disband its youth wing, the Young Communist League (YCL).
The central leaders of the UML, while addressing the party's ongoing 18th central committee meeting, have charged the Maoists, particularly YCL, with propogating a culture of intimidation and violence. ''We have to counter Maoists attacks, abductions and intimidation across the country,'' UML Standing Committee member Jhalanath Khanal was qouted as saying by Kantipur.
The leaders also urged the party leadership not to sit for dialogue with Maoist leaders until the latter implement their commitments. "UML should not support the Maoists until the latter change their political activities and the YCL must be dissolved and their violent activities must end,'' he said.
During the meeting, UML party leaders called upon the Maoists to return all confiscated property, dissolve the YCL and completely end its ''political terrorism'' to receive support from the UML.
