Mumbai, May 7 (UNI) Kanika Vaidya, the 13-year-old unseeded player from Maharashtra, recorded major upsets, defeating the second seed in the girls under-16 age category and the top seed in the under-14 age category, to enter the quarter-finals of both age groups in the Sunil Dutt Memorial All India National Series&Maharashtra State Ranking Tennis Tournament, Grade-A, at the Practennis courts, here today.

Kanika, who is training at the Sanwa Coaching Academy, Singapore, defeated under-14 top seed Prathana Thombre 6-4, 7-5 in the morning, before returning to defeat the under-16 second seed from Delhi, Vaniya Dhangwal 6-2, 6-0.

Among the boys, the Bisht brothers, Rohit and Ronit, played excellent tennis to enter the quarter-finals of the under-16 and under-14 age groups. In the boys u-16, top seed Rohit beat Kunal Anand 6-3, 7-6 in the pre-quarters and will now take on Tamil Nadu's Mohit Mayur, who defeated Maharashtra's Vishal Passi 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Meanhwile, in the Maharashtra State Ranking tennis tourney, top seed Nikhil Kannan and unseeded Aryan Goveas entered the quarter-finals of the boys under-12 category.

While the unseeded Aryan outplayed Aditya Gokale 8-3 to set up a clash with fourth seed Nihar Bhatawadekar, Kannan got the better of Ahan Tagare 8-2. Aryan also made the quarter-finals of the under-10 age group with a 7-2 win over Eklabvya Varma.
