Mumbai, May 7: The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, has ordered the police to launch an investigation against a former Videocon sales head Sunil Mehta, who has been charged with cheating and criminal breach of trust in a complaint case filed against him by an aggrieved distributor from Gujarat.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at the Esplanade Court here passed the order to the Mumbai police. Consequently, the Cuffe Parade police have filed an FIR against Sunil Mehta and have launched a investigation.

The case pertains to a criminal complaint filed in the court by Rajesh Rathi, MD of Gandhinagar-based MGD Electronics Private Limited stating that he had been cheated by Mehta. Rathi said Mehta misled him into closing his proprietary firm called Technoshop and then launch a private limited company. Mehta also made a false promise that the new entity would get better financial gains and territorial expansion.

Instead, Mehta appointed five new distributors in the same territory without giving him a proper notice due to which Rathi says he suffered monetarily. Rathi says he would not have changed the style of his ongoing business had the accused not promised better benefits. The accused also committed a criminal breach of trust by not settling the Rs.1 crore due on him, the complainant said.
