BJP misleading people on issue of tackling terrorism: Sonia
Bangalore, May 7 (UNI) AICC President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today came down heavily on the BJP saying the party was misleading the people on the issue of tackling terrorism by the Congress during the election campaign in Karnataka.
Addressing a well attended public meeting at Tumkur near here, she said the BJP was raising the issue to cover up its failure during the NDA regime in tackling terrorism in the country. ''The BJP-led NDA government had miserably failed in preventing the attack on Parliament while in Session. Innocent people were killed in Aksharadhama temple in Gujarat, dreaded terrorists lodged in high security jail were escorted to safety by none other than our Foreign Affairs Minister and to cover all these, the BJP is now pointing finger towards the Congress'' she alleged.
However, she promised that the Congress would strive hard for the empowerment of all sections of society. ''Congress is the only party which will never compromise on its ideologies for any political gain,'' she added.
Ms Gandhi expressed confidence that Congress would bounce back to power in Karnataka, as people of the State had seen the ill-effects of the coalition governance of the JD(S)-BJP.
Alleging that non-Congress governments in Karnataka were never successful in fulfilling the aspirations of the people, Ms Gandhi promised a stable government in the State, which will complete its full term. ''We want to provide a responsive and transparent government,'' she said.
