5-member squad to represent India at IAAF World Race Walking Cup

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) National record holder Babubhai Panucha will spearhead a five-member Indian challenge at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup to be held in Cheboksary (Russia) on May 10-11.

The Indians will be participating in the 50 km Walk Event.

This World Race Walking Cup is one of the Walking Events recognised by the International Ametuer Athletics Federation (IAAF) for qualifying for the Beijing Olympics.

The Olympic qualifying marks for the Beijing Games in 50 Km Walking Events is 4:00.00 (A Standard) and 4:07.00 (B Standard).

Panucha, who had gone close to the Olympic qualification mark during the Indian Grand Prix in 50000m walk, is aiming to dip below 4:07 in Chebokasary.

The team: Chandan Singh, Babubhai Kesharabhai Panucha, Harminder Singh, Parayil Surendran Jalan and Basanta Bahadur Rana.

Coaches: Nikolai Snesarev and Harmana Ram.
