Chandigarh, May 6 (UNI) Procurement agencies in Haryana have purchased 46 per cent more wheat than the total procurement of last year and as much as 49.68 lakh metric tonnes (MTs) of wheat has arrived in the mandis of the state so far during the current rabi season.
Of this, 49.16 lakh tonnes had been purchased by six government agencies. Besides, 51,408 tonne wheat was also purchased by the traders which was only one per cent of the total arrival, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said today.
Last year, 33.50 lakh tonnes wheat was purchased at the minimum support price.
He said the procuring agencies had surpassed the record of last three years in purchase of wheat. In 2004-2005, as much as 45.43 lakh tonnes of wheat was purchased.
Giving details of the arrival of the wheat in the mandis, he said HAFED had procured 18.34 lakh MTs, Food and Supplies Department 10 lakh MTs, Food Corporation of India 7.48 lakh MTs, Haryana Warehousing Corporation 4.53 lakh MTs, Confed 4.42 lakh MTs and Haryana Agro Industries Corporation 4.28 lakh MTs.
