Nearly 80 per cent of people issues Photo ID cards in DK: Official
Mangalore, May 6(UNI) Dakshina Kannada district administration had ensured issue of Election Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to 79.62 per cent of the over 13.33 lakh voters in the district, Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao said.
Speaking to reporters on the poll arrangements he said the administration continued to disburse EPIC cards and it would be done till the election day on May 10.
The revised total number of voters in Daxina Kannada district after correcting the list was at 13,33,094. Out of this men were 6,58,287 and omen voters were 6,74,807. Except in Puttur women outnumber men in all the other seven constituencies, he said.
He said that there were a total number of 49 candidates contesting from eight assembly segments.
According to ECI guidelines T-Shirts and Caps having the marks of the party symbol and photo of the candidates had been totally banned and severe action would be taken against those violating this norms.
Randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be held at both control unit and ballot units to avoid any doubts. A total 10 Central Election Observers including two Expenditure Observers have been appointed by the Election Commission for the district, he said.
Replying a query, he said that so for 47 cases of violation of model code of conduct have been reported, among which 16 have been booked.
