Hyundai celebrates '13th Foundation Day'

Chennai, May 6: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the country's second largest automobile manufacturer, celebrated its '13th Foundation Day' upon completion of 12 eventful years in India, today.

The celebrations were marked by a function, in which used engines and cars worth Rs 20 lakh were donated to various educational institutions to enable their students to study automobile technology. Besides, mementos were presented to 224 employees, who have been part of the company for more than a decade, a company release here said.

HMIL emerged as the second largest automobile manufacturer in the country in just six months after it began production in 1996 and rolled out its 1,00,000th car from its Chennai plant within just 19 months of commencement of operations.

The company was also credited with the unique distinction of rolling out the fastest one-millionth car. HMIL had also exported over five lakh cars in a record time, becoming the fastest five lakh car exporter in the country, the release added.
