CBI unearths Customs Duty evasion
Bangalore, May 6 (UNI) Sleuths of the CBI Anti-Corruption Bureau today brought to light ''evasion'' of Customs Duty to the tune of Rs 76,394 by two passengers, arriving from abroad, allegedly in connivance with the Customs Officials.
According to an official release here, the officials carried out a surprise check after the arrival of a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok, following complaints about corruption by the officers of the Customs Department at the International Airport here.
During the check, it was found that two passengers, carrying several items, had evaded Customs Duty of Rs 76,394 with the ''help'' of the Customs Officials.
They also found passports of Indian and foreign nationals with the Customs Officers, the release added.
A detailed probe was being carried out regarding the modus operandi of the officers and the extent of loss caused to the exchequer.
