Patna, May 6: An undertrial prisoner in Samastipur district jail, who was on an indefinite hunger strike for the past eight days along with several other jail inmates, was admitted to the district hospital after his condition deteriorated today.

Official sources, quoting district authorities, said that about 45 prisoners in the jail launched an indefinite hunger strike on April 28 to protest the ''sub-standard food and pathetic living conditions'' in the jail. They were also demanding immediate transfer of jailor Lalbabu Singh, they said.

Meanwhile, the district authorities, concerned about the health of the agitating priosners, assured them of considering their demands and urged them to withdraw the hunger strike immediately.
