Lucknow, May 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress president Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi today termed the resignation of Rajya Sabha member Akhilesh Das an ''opportunistic'' move.
In her statement here, Dr Joshi said Congress had made him the Mayor of Lucknow, besides sending him to Rajya Sabha twice and appointing him as central minister.
''Mr Das' act could be termed as a pure businessman approach, as he was removed from the union ministry and had nothing to do with political ideology,'' she added.
Dr Joshi said the words of Mr Das seem to be tutored by the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the state.
Claiming that the resignation of the MP would not at all have any impact on the party, she said in fact it will benefit the Congress as such opportunist forces are not required in the party.
She said Mr Das contested twice from Bulandshahar in the assembly polls, but lost which proves that he was not liked by the voters.
