Lucknow, May 5 (UNI) About 6,000 employees of Uttar Pradesh trade tax department today proceeded with a three-day strike in support of their service-related demands, affecting the revenue collection in the state.

The employees had given a notice of the strike demanding the restructuring of the department after the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime came into being in the state.

''The process of restructuring is already underway and the matter is currently with the Personnel department,'' Addtional Trade Tax commissioner Ramesh Mishra told UNI here this afternoon.

He said many of the employees at the headquarters had joined on duty after registering their protest. The talks with the employees unions were underway to convince them about their demands being actively considered.

''The strike scheduled for tomorrow and day after tomorrow may be postponed, in view of the positive assurance to the employees,'' he said adding their demands were being considered, however, the official process would take some time.

The process of restructuring would involve departments of personnel, finance and law and thereafter the matter would be sent to Cabinet for approval.
